On October 27, 2019, Charles Ray Stocks passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Pitt County on March 25, 1956, he was the son of the late Walter and Louise Stocks.
Charles was a simple man who loved his family, racing, fishing and old cars. Most Saturdays you could find him at the racetrack with his sons and on Sunday spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was most thankful for the love of his life, Jan, and the special care she gave him until the Lord called him home.
Charles is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Janice S. Stocks and their children, Erin Ballance (Robert), Ty Stocks (Lindsey), Phillip Stocks (Angela), Adam Stocks (Heather), Madison Brock (Matthew), Todd Shirley (Bobbie) and Quintin Shirley (Summar); his brother, James Stocks (Doris); sisters, Barbara Sheppard (Tony), Connie Murphy, Mary Hill (Durel) and Verna Smith. He his also survived by eighteen grandchildren, Layla, Emmie, Callen, Rebel, Ryott, and Legend Ballance, Hadley Stocks, Garrett, Tucker, and Harlynne Stocks, Hunter Shirley (Laura), Logan Aster (Steven), Micaela Shirley (Bryce), Trace Shirley, Dallas Krob, Katelynn Mangaro (Jared), Brentin Shirley (Meghan) and Connor Shirley; great-grandchildren, Ayden and Karsyn Shirley.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Stocks; sister, Janice Johnson; niece, Kim Stocks and granddaughter, Alana Ballance.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. A graveside service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Eureka Cemetery.
We would also like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff and caregivers of SMOC who cared for Charles over the past three years.
