Clenon "Big Jim" Barnes, 80, of Fremont went to be with his Lord and Savior, while surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday January 26, 2021.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. The family will greet friends following the service. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Mr. Barnes, a native of Wayne County, was born August 25, 1940 to the late Perry "Tinker" Barnes and Irene Langley Barnes. He retired from Hardwood Dimensions of Fremont after 40 years. Mr. Barnes was an active member of both the Fremont Fire Department and the Fremont Rescue Squad where he served 25 years. He enjoyed attending church and was an member of Crosspointe Baptist Church in Fremont. He never met a person he couldn't strike up a conversation with, and was happy to share a story about one of his fishing trips or talk about what was growing in the garden.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Faye Barnes; two sons, Eugene "Little Jim" Barnes and wife Robin of Pikeville and Timothy Barnes and husband David Moses of Fremont; one sister Ethel Green of Fremont; and one granddaughter, Staci Adams and husband Will of Wilson and two great-grandchildren, Corbin and Stella.
The family is in the care of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont.
