George "Buddy" Ray Goodwin, 86, of Fremont passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont with Pastor Dave Varnell officiating. Interment will follow at Stantonsburg Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Goodwin was born in Greene County on December 11, 1938 to the late George Ambrose and Annie Swindell Goodwin. He was the last charter member of Fremont Rescue Squad having served for 35 years and served with the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Buddy was a valued employee where he served for many, many years with Wayne Oil Company under the leadership of Mr. John Strickland, who was like family. He was also a member of Neuse River Carving Club and Crosspointe Baptist Church in Fremont.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Williams of Fremont; two granddaughters, Ashley B. Casey (Matt) and Katie Bowyer; three great-grandchildren, Amelia, Micah and Aidan Casey; his fiancée, Susan Evans and many dear friends including, Ronnie Warrick.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Goodwin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Kearney Goodwin and two sisters, Gladys Rose and Hazel Albritton.
