Jo Ann (Tripp) Barnes

Jo Ann Tripp Barnes, age 67,  went to be with her Heavenly Father in the early hours of Saturday, May 9th in her home surrounded by those who loved her most. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont with graveside to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. 

Jo Ann was born in Wayne County, NC on December 5th, 1958 to the late John Henry "Frog" and Flora Proctor Tripp. She was known for her love of others, her caring spirit, thoughtful cards and delicious desserts.  She enjoyed spending time with those she loved, especially her grandchildren. Jo Ann was a quiet lady who spoke loudest through her compassion for others. 

She is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years, Larry Barnes of Fremont; daughter, Rebecca Seagle and husband, Brandon of La Grange, daughter, Bridget Brown and husband, Nathan of Selma, and granddaughters, Alaina Blake (Ladybug) Seagle and Emma Grace (Doodlebug) Brown. Jo Ann was born an only child, but is survived by her many siblings by marriage that she always considered her brothers and sisters. 

In addition to her parents, Jo Ann is proceeded in death by her granddaughter, Lexie Ann Seagle. 

The family will receive friends at the Barnes home. 

Although flowers are welcome, donations may be made in Jo Ann's memory to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
