Joel Gray “Pete” Taylor, 80, of Black Creek passed away Friday, August 30, 2019 at Wilson Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 03, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Interment will follow at Black Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor was born in Wayne County on March 14, 1939 to Authur Taylor and Mildred Cox Taylor.
He is survived by sons, Joey Taylor and wife, Christie of Kenly, Roger Lucas and wife, Diane of Wilson and Jeff Lucas and wife, Gloria of Kenly; one brother, Johnny Taylor and wife, LaRue of Pikeville; two sisters, Evelyn Best and husband, Kermit of Wilson and Catherine Hales of Eureka; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Gardner and wife, Lindsey, Chris Mooring and wife, Alyshia, Joel A. Taylor, Ashlee Taylor, Roxanne Lucas, Travis Lucas and Andrew Lucas; six great-grandchildren; a very special first cousin, Clinton Cox and wife, Carolyn of Pikeville and two special nieces, Lorrie Bridgers of Middlesex and Margaret Hart of Elm City.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Pope Taylor and one brother, Bobby Taylor.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, September 02, 2019 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine Street in Fremont.
