William Randy Bass

William Randy Bass, 73, of Eureka departed this earthly life Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goldsboro.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Randy was born in Wayne County on November 22, 1949 to the late Lanace William “Dick” Bass and Helen “Marie” Bass.

Randy was a veteran of the United States Army with the 42nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. He served as past mayor of Eureka and retired after thirty-six years of service from Bridgestone/Firestone. He was an avid baseball player that could play any position and once pitched a perfect ballgame.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Rachel Snipes Bass; one son, William Brian Bass of Eureka; one sister, Gale Bass Pate and husband, Leland Kimble Pate of Fremont; his beloved dog, Annabel and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Paul Crumpler Bass.

The family is in the care of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine Street in Fremont.
